Ventilated curtain wall with undercut anchor

It is not without reason that ventilated curtain walls are among the most successful facade systems. Due to a combination of functional safety, a multitude of design options and various technical qualities, this system is appreciated by architects worldwide.

For the cladding of curtain-type ventilated facades, a wide variety of building materials are possible. Stones & Rocks uses exclusively natural stone for the construction of facades.

The fundamental concept

The building material natural stone is not only aesthetically pleasing. Even the ancient Romans appreciated natural stone as a building material. And not without reason. Thanks to its resistance to heat and frost, the stone is durable even at relatively low cost. It also has natural thermal insulation and is particularly robust. While, for example, the coating on a concrete façade will peel off after only 10 years, making an originally white façade quickly look grey and unsightly, natural stone remains consistently elegant.

Furthermore, a natural stone façade, as the name suggests, is a particularly sustainable building material, with a significantly lower Co2 load than comparable building materials.  For more detailed information, the sustainability study of the DNV (German Natural Stone Association) offers deeper insights into the subject.

The GSD undercut anchor – latest technology

Stones&Rocks is an advocate of innovation and state-of-the-art technology. The installation of the curtain-type ventilated façade is carried out with the help of the GSD undercut anchor.  This system has proven itself and has been used by us for over 20 years. Installation with undercut anchors not only saves time, but is also much more visually appealing than comparable installation techniques, such as mortar anchors.

Holding anchors, which are attached to the substructure, receive the GSD undercut anchor. This construction ensures simple, fast and stress-free installation of natural stone facades. Due to this rear attachment, smaller joints are created than with comparable installation techniques.

The construction using undercut anchors can be used for any material thickness.

The installation is unaffected by temperature and humidity and can therefore take place regardless of the weather conditions.

Technical information

  • no internal stresses in the stone material during anchor installation
  • very easy and quick installation in the workshop
  • no parts protruding from the stone surface, no problems for packing and shipping secure fixing under heavy loads
  • secure fastening for thin material thicknesses
  • secure fastening for limestone and sandstone
  • Stone joints without visible fixings

Why undercut anchors?

The three-dimensional adaptability of this system allows perfect alignment of the cladding. Undercut anchors are being used more and more frequently in modern construction, and today they provide a solution that allows both aesthetic and functional results to be achieved.

Advantages of the undercut anchor

  • Highest safety which – guaranteed by individual static proofs
  • Higher pull-out loads for the same panel thickness compared to other systems
  • Little time required due to the easy assembly process
  • Reduced load on the edges of the plate as with mandrel fastening
  • Clean and uniform facade appearance
